Should you choose a 50cc moped or a 125cc motorcycle?
50cc mopeds and scooters
A 50cc moped can be a practical starting point for short, local journeys and urban routes. Riders can generally begin at age 16 with the correct provisional entitlement and CBT, subject to applicable licence exceptions. Mopeds are restricted in speed, so check that your intended roads and journey are suitable.
Consider for: local college trips, short commutes and everyday town travel.
125cc motorcycles and scooters
At age 17 or over, eligible learner riders can ride a motorcycle up to 125cc and 11kW after completing CBT, with L plates and the appropriate licence entitlement. A 125cc offers a wider choice of scooters, commuter motorcycles and geared bikes for different routes and riding preferences.
Consider for: regular commuting, longer local journeys and riders who prefer a geared motorcycle.
On a provisional entitlement with CBT, learner riders must follow the relevant restrictions, including L plates and no motorway riding or pillion passengers. Always check your licence and the latest rules before riding. Read the official GOV.UK CBT guidance.

- Choose your motorcycle: filter by 50cc or 125cc, then manufacturer and model. Open the motorcycle’s own Build My Package section.
- Choose learner equipment: select no learner pack or an available Essential, Plus or Premium equipment pack, with the required clothing sizes.
- Review on-the-road costs: the mandatory £199 OTR charge is shown separately from the motorcycle price.
- Add optional CBT training: choose the separate £250 CBT training option in the cart. This is training, not the Essential, Plus or Premium protective-equipment pack.
- Choose fulfilment and checkout: review free collection where offered or £200 UK motorcycle delivery, and check the full order total before paying.

What should a first-time commuter consider?
Journey type: Think about the roads you will use, distance travelled and whether a restricted-speed moped is appropriate. Fit and comfort: Check seat height, riding position, storage needs and whether you prefer a scooter or geared bike. Running costs: Budget for insurance, fuel or charging where applicable, maintenance, suitable security and protective equipment. Licensing: Check the age and entitlement rules for your chosen machine before buying. Equipment: Choose a correctly fitting, compliant helmet and suitable riding clothing; our learner packs are optional and separate from CBT tuition.

Can I ride a 50cc motorcycle at 16?
Many 16-year-olds can ride an eligible moped with the appropriate provisional entitlement and completed CBT. Vehicle classification and licence rules matter, so confirm that the particular machine qualifies and check the official guidance.
Can I ride a 125cc motorcycle at 17?
Eligible riders aged 17 or over can generally ride a motorcycle up to 125cc and 11kW with the appropriate provisional entitlement, completed CBT and L plates, subject to learner restrictions.
Is CBT included in the learner equipment pack?
No. Essential, Plus and Premium are equipment packs. CBT training is a separate optional £250 service that can be added in the cart.
How much is on-the-road preparation?
OTR is a mandatory £199 charge on motorcycle purchases through this package builder. It is added separately so the full order total remains clear.
Can I have the motorcycle delivered?
UK motorcycle delivery is £200 through the package checkout. Free collection may also be available on the motorcycle site; review the fulfilment choice shown at checkout.
Will my CBT course be booked when I pay?
No. Your CBT date, location and provider availability will be confirmed separately after purchase.
